Petrification (2021)
In collaboration with Raphaël NAHMIAS
Experts : Emile de Visscher, Thomas VAILLY, and Shem Johnson

It is hard not to notice the impact that metal excavation has on environment. What if there was another way to have durable and beautiful objects made out of minerals?
This project uses the natural petrification process to manufacture Baume and Mercier’s watches. It is inspired by Mother Shipton’s cave, located in Yorkshire, UK, in which objects are transformed into inorganic matter as droplets of water charged with calcium carbonate fall upon them.

What could the luxury industry learn from nature ?

A watch made with a device reproducing the natural process of petrification on a textile scaffold. A coating of chitosan is applied to make the object resistant to shocks and water while giving it a “pearly” appearance.
